Church in Detroit—Why the Act of Confession is Important to Christians

1 John 1:9-10… “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar and His word is not in us.”

This verse discusses the subject of sin, and tells all Christians that confession is an activity that pleases God. Those who lead a Christian life know that profession of faith is not enough–they also know that they need to repent their sins with some regularity. In fact, person can’t say that he or she is a true Christian unless they admit to their sinful nature.

The idea of confession is to perceive sin as God perceives it–which is that it is a destructive force in a Christian’s life. Thus, when one confesses his or her sins, one should not simply enumerate the various sins committed, but must feel a genuine sorrow for committing them. 1 John 1:9-10 gives Christians the assurance that those who are faithful in confessing their sins have God’s forgiveness. CATHOLIC ARCHDIOCESE OF DETROIT: THE DANGER OF MAKING EXCUSES FOR SIN

Making excuses is a part of life. For some, excuses are practically a way of life, becoming so common that it’s almost tempting to call them a routine. Everybody is guilty of it, but for Catholics, the habit of making excuses can be dangerous. Your Catholic Archdiocese of Detroit would like you to know why.
When a person experiences hardships in life, it can begin to shape the tone for who that person is to become. Hardships have the potential to help us grow, but on the other hand, they can also turn into an excuse NOT to grow. OLD ST. MARYS DETROIT: 4 REASONS WHY YOU NEED THEOLOGY IN YOUR LIFE

The word ‘theology’ often triggers negative reactions—sometimes, even among Christians who frequent churches like Old St. Marys in Detroit. Every so often, you’ll hear someone say they don’t need theology to be good. But the truth is, every believer needs theology. In fact, it’s necessary in everyday life!

DETROIT CHURCHES: UNMASKING THE FALLACY OF THE EUTHYPHRO DILEMMA

Titus 1:2 says, “It is wrong to lie because God cannot lie.” Thus, lying is sin because God is inherently good, and He is incapable of it. This means that God did not discover that lying was wrong, nor did He declare it to be wrong. This means that God does not declare something to be good or say something is inherently good. Put simply, God is the standard of what is good. And so, for the Christian, the Euthyphro dilemma presents no dilemma at all, because neither of its positions represent Christian theology.
A visit to a church in Detroit will inform you that the Euthyphro dilemma has been addressed a long time ago. So why do secularists keep bringing it up? Unfortunately, bad arguments will always find their way back into fashion. As long as you know how to defeat it, then it can’t be used as a weapon against your faith.Read more on this article.http://bit.ly/2oly2Pl

LATIN MASS & HISTORY: SEEING THE BEAUTY OF THE TRIDENTINE TRADITION

A visit to any Catholic archdiocese is not complete without hearing what is known as the Tridentine Mass. While some people might find the said mass quite boring and confusing, there is actually more to it than meets the eye.
What Is A Tridentine Mass?
Simply put, a Tridentine mass is what is also known as the Latin mass. The said mass got its official name from the Council of Trent, the party responsible for the some of the changes done by the Catholic Church when it comes to religious rites. One of the most notable change would be the priest facing the people during the rites instead of everyone facing the altar.
As the name implies, a Tridentine or Latin Mass typically makes use of the Latin language throughout the whole rite. This does not, however, mean that you need to have an intimate knowledge of the said language as they usually give out missals that can guide you. Read more on this article. http://bit.ly/2oQRAyX
